On picking a niche and EB-1A profile-building

Here’s a post by immigration lawyer Amber Davis on picking a niche and EB-1A profile-building:

You don’t have to pick a niche to start profile-building.

In fact, picking a niche too early, especially if you’re a junior professional, may not be the best approach to take (unless you’ve already developed a significant amount of expertise in an area and want to continue to build your expertise in that area).

If you’re just starting to build your EB-1A profile and have just started working, focus on doing a broad range of activities in your broader field.

Not every activity has to significantly strengthen your profile - sometimes, it’s more about meeting people who share your professional interests and senior professionals who can share insights with you to help with your career development.

The focus of profile-building when you’re still early in your career should be on building a professional network and trying a broad range of activities to see which ones you want to keep doing for the next few years.

You’ll probably start receiving more niche professional development opportunities as you grow your network and start getting more involved in your field, which again can help with eventually choosing an area in which to specialize and focus on as your field of expertise for your EB-1A case.
